I had the extreme pleasure of meeing Tamara and her family when we were putting together Logan’s nursery. We had been exploring nursery furniture at stores (yikes! Expensive) and then we saw on our neighborhood buy/sell page that someone was selling a whole nursery furniture set. That person ended up being Tamara. And…she lives just down the street!
What I loved about meeting Tamara was her genuine caring personality. She was full of great ideas and tips for a new mom such as myself and when we brought Logan home Tamara and her family were so excited for us. Since then, it’s been fun to chat when we see each other out for walks or in the alley way. Tamara runs a successful real estate business and she is a rockstar mom and wife. Tell us a little about your family.
I have a wonderful husband (Andy), two great step-kids (ages 11 & 13), and my wild & wonderful 4 year old son.
Why did you become a business owner?
I love to help people achieve their goals. Real estate isn’t really about sales – it’s more about finding out what a client needs and wants, and being their ‘project manager.’ I also love helping people find the home that makes their eyes light up and get them excited to drive home to.
I work with high quality and integrity. It’s hard to find that in businesses, and I wanted to start my own. Keller Williams is an umbrella company – I have my own real estate business within Keller Williams.
What is your biggest success as a Mom Business Owner?
My biggest success is the referrals I get from past clients – this shows they see the quality of my work, and that I really care about them. If they refer a family member or a friend to me, I know they feel like I will take care of their loved one.
What is one business mistake you’ve made that ended up being helpful in the long run?
I quit teaching cold turkey and got into real estate. It was REALLY tough financially as real estate is 100% commissions, and has a ramp up time of 6 months to 1-3 years. I regretted not teaching and doing real estate at the same time – it was scary financially. But, that first year was a building time that paid off in the years after.
What is the best thing about being a mom business owner?
Flexibility! I can do a lot of my work any time during the day – 6am, 3pm, or 1am – this is so helpful in making sure my family gets time with me.
